Then and Now

Ten Years of Alumni Photography

The exhibition entitled Then and Now brings to you over one hundred photographic images by UNA alumni who studied photography from 2006-2016. Photographs created during their undergraduate years from the digital archives and pictures created in more recent times are presented. Images in letter-size, on broadsheet and canvas, framed and in digital projection, showcase the enduring beauty of film photography and the in-your-face frankness of digital photography. Most of all, a myriad of subject matters covey the fact that photography continues to remain a meaningful personal pursuit in the life of our alumni. The following Alumni artist contributed their recent work for the exhibit: Jack Jones, Christina Covington, Christopher Hughes, Tiffany Rose Ray, David Sercel, Carrie Lawrence, Shannon Wells, Christi Britten, Anna Lyles, Justin Michael, Wayne Sides, Christopher Rohling, Cherrine S. Kamel, and Dean Arnold.

A photograph is the observation of a moment. It must be still and move at the same time—just as we think learn and understand across some kind of continuum. A photograph’s observation have inherent truths that we can explore. They can help us understand our environment, where we live, where we’ve been and where we are going. The process of photography is a path toward better understanding  who we are as humans —Wayne Sides, Professor Emeritus
